Know India Programme for Young People of Indian Origin kip application form

1)Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs (MOIA), New Delhi has been organizing the Know India Programme (KIP) in order to associate the younger generation of the Indian Diaspora closely with India .The three week programme provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin (excluding NRIs) to share their views, expectations and experience to bond closely with contemporary India.Eight such programmes have been organized till now.The programmes have been greatly appreciated by the participants.

2)The next KIP in the series, in partnership with the Government of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Harayana, Punjab and Orissa, are being organised in August - September, 2008,  Dec 08-Jan09 & March 2009.The programme will be organized with logistical support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan (NYKS).

3)The content of the programme may include the following:

(a) Visit and stay at a University/College/Institute.

(b) Activities related to youth to be organized by NYKS.

(c) Visit to Industry(ies).

(d) Visit to a village

(e) Exposure to Indian media and Film Industry.

(f) Presentations on the country, the constitution, political process etc.

(g) Interaction with NGOs and/or organizations dealing with women affairs.

(h) Calls on high dignitaries, which may include President, Ministers of OIA, Youth Affairs and Sports, Women and Child Development.

(i) Visit to places of historical importance/Monuments.

(j) Cultural events.

4)Eligibility criteria for being nominated to the KIPs are as follows:

i) You have to be of Indian Origin (NRIs are not eligible) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to start.

(iii) You should either be studying in the under-graduate level or should have completed under-graduation or equivalent.

(iv) You should be able to converse in English, and have studied English as a subject at the High School level or should have English as a medium of instruction for under-graduate course

(v) You should not have participated in any previous Know India Programme or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth.

(vi) You should be able to highlight some achievements in any field, as also show that you have an abiding interest in India.

5)The selection of particpants will be done by MOIA, and if you are among those selected, this Consulate will inform you accordingly. Please note that since nominations are likely to be received from several countries and slots for the Programme are limited, it may not be

possible to accommodate all the nominations.

6)The selected participants shall be provided local hospitality e.g. boarding/lodging in State Guest houses, per diem allowance of Rs.100 for out-of-pocket expenses, and internal travel. They will also be granted gratis visas by the Consulate.After participation in the programme, and on return to Australia , they will be reimbursed one way economy class international airfare by the Consulate.

8)Eligible candidates resident in Victoria and Tasmania, if interested in participating in this programme, should send their applications in the attached format to the Consulate General of India in Melbourne ( 15, Munro Street, Coburg). Applications for the 9th KIP should reach us before 24th June 2008, as nominations have to be submitted to MOIA by 30th June 2008.
