Eligible residents of Victoria and Tasmania should apply for OCI cards online at this website through the link given below, but first read these guidelines:
Applying for OCI - Guidelines
- The fee per applicant is (Australian dollars) AUD $414.00. The application fee will be accepted in the form of Money order or bank cheque. Kindly make the bank cheque (not personal cheque/company cheque) or money order payable to "VFS Services Australia Pty. Ltd."
- While filling the application online please select the place of submission as Australia � Melbourne
- To apply for OCI status, the applicant should be an Australian or foreign passport holder. If you are an Indian national applying for Australian / foreign citizenship, please lodge your application after you receive Australian / foreign passport as details of that passport are required in the OCI application and documents.
- It is mandatory to apply online and send hard copies later. Applications filled by hand will not be accepted.
- After filling the �Part A�of the application online click on the save button which automatically displays the print option. Click on the print option which generates �Part B�of the application automatically. Click on the print option to print the hard copy of the application. The hard copy of the application should then be lodged at or posted to the Indian Passport and Visa Service Centre, Melbourne (click here for contact details).
- The hard copy must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Photo copy of the Australian (or other foreign) passport�s first page and photocopy of the first and last page of Indian passport. The passport itself is not required to be sent at this stage (see Guideline No. 8 below).
- The passport photocopies (Australian and Indian) should be 'self attested' by the applicant, stating that the copy is true with applicant�s signature. If the applicant is a minor, copies may be attested by parents.
- AUSTRALIAN format photographs are unacceptable. Photographs must meet the prescribed specifications (
Click here to see relevant instructions). - Applicants, who are citizens of a foreign country other than Australia, are required to provide proof of residence in Australia such as Permanent Resident status, photocopy of Medicare card, photocopy of electricity bill, photo copy of rental agreement or relevant document of property if purchased, employment document etc. The documents above should be attested by a Justice of Peace (JP) or a Notary Public.
- If applying for OCI Status for a child at least one of the parents should be an Australian/foreign citizen. In cases where both the parents are Indian nationals, and the child is an Australian or other passport holder, the child is not eligible for OCI. The child may, however, apply for PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) Card. Details available on our website at www.cgimelb.org.
- For minors no thumb impression or signature is required on the form.
- If one of the parents is applying along with the child for OCI a no objection certificate should be provided by the other parent in respect of the child. In case one parent has sole custody of the child, a certified copy of the court of the Court Order should be provided.
- In case an applicant does not have copies of old Indian passport they may provide other documents such as copy of domicile certificate issued by competent authority or any other proof to show that they were Indian nationals. Any query in this regard may kindly be addressed by E-Mail to consular@cgimelb.org or hoc@cgimelb.org giving full details of the supporting documents which are in the possession of the applicants.
- Please send an E-Mail to the Indian Passport and Visa Service Centre, Melbourne 30 days after posting an application if you do not receive an acknowledgement or file number by then. The status of the application can be checked online by using the file number which will be provided within 30 days of lodging the application. Please note that the status cannot be checked with the online registration.
- When the OCI documents are received from India you will receive an approval letter requesting you to submit your Australian/foreign passport for us to affix the OCI sticker and provide you with the OCI document. Please note that you need not send your Australian/foreign Passport before this stage.
- Kindly note that as soon as you acquire Australian or any foreign nationality, your Indian passport ceases to be valid.
